The Port of Ajaccio (France) marked the 30th anniversary of Marella Cruises on May 7th, 2026 during a joint celebration held simultaneously in Ajaccio and Dubrovnik, two destinations that have featured prominently within the company’s Mediterranean programme for more than two decades.

The anniversary gathering in Corsica brought together the cruise vessels Marella Discovery 2 and Marella Explorer alongside representatives of the port community, local authorities, service providers, and passengers. The occasion formed part of a coordinated programme organised by the cruise line and local port stakeholders to commemorate the company’s long-standing relationship with both destinations.

Celebrations commenced following the morning shore excursion programme, allowing passengers and crew to participate in afternoon events staged both aboard the vessels and along the Ajaccio waterfront. Representatives from Marella Cruises, EPCIC Port Services, shipping agents, local tourism operators, and harbour authorities attended the official opening ceremony held on the quayside.

Captains Holmberg and Ziolkowski joined Dominique Di Menza, Deputy Chairman of the EPCIC, together with Ajaccio Harbour Master Jacques Jonot, in acknowledging the nearly 4,000 guests, crew members, and visitors assembled at the port. Officials noted that the event reflected the long-standing operational and commercial relationship established between the cruise operator and the Port of Ajaccio over many years of regular calls.

The programme incorporated a range of cultural and entertainment activities highlighting Corsican traditions, including performances by the Imperial Guard’s Changing of the Guard, local musical presentations, regional food and beverage tastings, and public events arranged throughout the quayside areas. Organisers stated that the objective had been to create an open and participatory atmosphere for passengers, crew, and local residents alike.

Port authorities indicated that the event had required extensive preparation involving coordination between Marella Cruises, the Port of Ajaccio cruise department, shipping agent Intercruises, and tour operator Medacruises. Planning reportedly focused on operational logistics, technical coordination, safety management, hospitality arrangements, and entertainment programming to accommodate the large-scale anniversary gathering.

Management at the Port of Ajaccio expressed appreciation to Marella Cruises for selecting Ajaccio as one of the principal venues for the anniversary celebrations and acknowledged the contribution of local service providers, port personnel, and tourism partners involved in the organisation of the event.
