The Port of Dover (England UK) recorded the busiest cruise day in its history on May 8th, 2026, when 4 cruise vessels arrived simultaneously for the first time since cruise operations began at the Kent port 3 decades ago.
The arrival of Celebrity Eclipse (Celebrity), Viking Sky (Viking OCEAN), MS Fram (HX) and Le Bellot (Ponant) brought all three cruise terminals and an additional waterfront berth into simultaneous operation, underlining Dover’s continued development as both a turnaround and transit cruise port.
The occasion also coincided with the annual expedition summit organised by Cruise Lines International Association/CLIA, during which approximately 100 travel agents visited MS Fram as part of the association’s expedition cruise programme.
Peter Wright, Head of Cruise at the Port of Dover, stated that the achievement reflected several months of operational planning and demonstrated the port’s capability to accommodate multiple large cruise vessels simultaneously. He further noted that continued investment in infrastructure, combined with established transport links and passenger services, reinforced Dover’s position as a major cruise gateway thirty years after the opening of its first dedicated cruise terminal. He also acknowledged the contribution of cruise line partners and described the waterfront activity generated by the visiting ships and their passengers as a notable feature of the day.
The 2026 season follows a series of infrastructure improvements at Dover, including the installation of new quick-release mooring hooks capable of handling vessels up to 350 metres in length, an increase of 30 metres over previous limitations. A new passenger boarding bridge for Cruise Terminal 1 is also scheduled to enter service in 2027. The port has additionally reported achieving carbon net-zero status for Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions.
