Hapag-Lloyd Cruises’ expedition vessel HANSEATIC spirit has completed its first scheduled drydock refurbishment since entering service in 2021.
Emerging from a 10-day stay at Lloyd Werft Bremerhaven GmbH, the vessel boasts refurbished public spaces and renewed technical certification.
The refit included extensive renovations within all hotel and guest areas. The spa facilities received aesthetic upgrades, including refurbishment of mosaic wall features and the installation of a new stove in the Finnish sauna. Numerous carpets and floor tiles throughout the ship were replaced, while the HANSEATIC Restaurant, reception area, Observation Lounge, and the specialty restaurant l’esprit were fitted with new floor coverings and refreshed décor. Selected cabin and suite bathrooms also underwent renewal works.
Alongside the interior improvements, the vessel underwent its mandatory 5-year class renewal, a comprehensive technical inspection required for continued operation. Routine maintenance, hull work, and a new exterior paint finish formed part of the shipyard programme.
Hapag-Lloyd Cruises noted that the project reflected the longstanding cooperation between the company and the Lloyd shipyard, highlighting the yard’s role in delivering refurbishment and maintenance programmes across the fleet. The cruise line indicated that the renovated guest areas would enhance the onboard experience while preserving the vessel’s expedition-focused character.
Following completion of the refit, HANSEATIC spirit departed Bremerhaven and resumed service on an 8-day voyage calling at Rotterdam, Scheveningen, Zeebrugge, Texel, Sylt, Helgoland and Hamburg. The vessel is scheduled to continue with a “Wild Scotland” expedition before commencing its Arctic season, which includes voyages to Northwest Greenland and the Canadian Arctic. Later in the year, the ship will operate itineraries in Western Europe before repositioning to Southern Africa.
