Avalon Waterways has expanded its European cruise-and-tour portfolio with the introduction of three new itineraries developed in partnership with sister company Globus. The additions are designed for travellers seeking a combination of escorted land touring and river cruising within a single itinerary, while simplifying the logistics associated with multi-country travel.

The new programmes combine guided exploration ashore with river voyages through some of Europe’s most established cruising regions. Avalon indicated that the concept allows guests to focus on the travel experience itself while transportation, accommodations, transfers and scheduling are coordinated as part of a seamless journey.

Among the new offerings is Essential Britain & Ireland with Romantic Rhine, a 17-day itinerary that links destinations across the United Kingdom, Ireland, the Netherlands, Germany, France and Switzerland. The programme combines visits to historic cities, castles and traditional towns with a Rhine River cruise through some of Europe’s best-known river landscapes.

The second addition, The Best of Spain with Paris and Normandy, spans 16 days and begins with a land journey through Spain, including Madrid and Barcelona, before connecting with a Seine River cruise. The itinerary combines major cultural centres with visits to Normandy and the historic city of Rouen, offering a blend of urban, coastal and heritage experiences.

Completing the new collection is Italian Vista with Romantic Rhine with 2 Nights in Lucerne, a 17-day programme that starts in Italy with visits to destinations including Rome, Venice and Lake Como. The journey continues with a stay in Lucerne before concluding with a Rhine cruise featuring calls in Strasbourg and Amsterdam.

The combination of escorted touring and river cruising remains a key feature of the new itineraries. The format offers the depth and structure of a land-based holiday while providing the convenience and slower pace associated with river travel. It also reduces the need for frequent hotel changes and repeated packing and unpacking, a factor that continues to appeal to travellers undertaking extended multi-country journeys.

Avalon noted that the itineraries are intended to deliver a more effortless way of experiencing Europe, particularly for first-time visitors looking to see several countries within one holiday, as well as returning travellers seeking a different perspective on familiar destinations.
