Budapest (Hungary) has officially entered the new Danube cruise season, with river operators resuming panoramic sightseeing voyages and excursion services that remain among the most popular tourism activities in the Hungarian capital.

Cruise offerings include traditional sightseeing sailings through central Budapest as well as longer excursions to destinations along the Danube Bend, including Szentendre, Visegrád, Esztergom and Zebegény. These routes provide visitors with access to some of Hungary’s most scenic riverside towns while showcasing one of Europe’s most important waterways.

Danube cruises continue to represent an accessible tourism product within the city. Standard daytime sightseeing voyages are generally priced between EUR 7 and EUR 14, while evening cruises typically range from approximately EUR 16 for children and seniors to EUR 21 for adults.

For travellers seeking a full-day excursion, round-trip services between Budapest and Szentendre are available for ~EUR 20 per adult, while voyages to Visegrád are priced at ~EUR 26. Children under the age of two travel free of charge on these routes.

Premium cruise products remain available for passengers seeking enhanced experiences. These sailings often include additional services such as beverages, multilingual audio guides and themed programmes. A typical one-hour evening cruise featuring a complimentary drink and audio commentary is priced at EUR 25 for adults, EUR 22.50 for students and EUR 17.50 for children aged between 10 and 14 years.

Demand for Danube cruising has increased significantly over the past year. According to figures released by Mahart-PassNave, one of Hungary’s leading river transport operators, scheduled services carried 413,000 passengers during 2025, compared with 183,000 passengers in the previous year.

The strongest growth was recorded in Budapest, where passenger numbers increased from 122,000 to 329,000 within a single year. Substantial growth was also reported throughout the Danube Bend region, reflecting the increasing popularity of river-based tourism experiences.

Operators attributed the growth to expanded route networks, increased sailing frequencies and rising interest among visitors seeking alternative ways to experience destinations from the water.

Among the most popular services this season are the Budapest–Szentendre–Budapest route and regional connections linking Visegrád, Nagymaros and Zebegény.

Themed sailings have also become an increasingly important part of the market. One of the most successful products is the "Prosecco & Aperitivo Spritz" cruise, a one-hour voyage operating several times each week in response to strong demand.

Over recent years, Danube cruises have established themselves as one of Budapest’s leading visitor attractions. The combination of river scenery and views of landmarks such as the Hungarian Parliament, the city’s historic bridges and its waterfront architecture continues to make cruising one of the most distinctive ways to experience the Hungarian capital.
