AmaWaterways has unveiled the first details and renderings of AmaRudi, its second double-width river cruise ship, scheduled to enter service on the Danube in spring 2027. Building on the concept introduced by AmaMagna in 2019, the new vessel will join her sister ship as one of the largest river cruise vessels operating in Europe, accommodating 196 guests in 98 staterooms and suites.

The vessel takes its name from AmaWaterways co-founder and chairman Rudi Schreiner, becoming the first ship in the company’s history to be named after a man. Schreiner, who grew up near the Danube in Austria, indicated that the success of AmaMagna had demonstrated growing demand for additional space and choice in river cruising. He noted that increasing numbers of travellers were transitioning from ocean cruising to rivers and seeking a more spacious onboard environment, while describing the naming of the ship as a significant personal milestone.

Designed to blend contemporary styling with references to the cultures and cities of the Danube region, AmaRudi expands upon the double-width concept while introducing several new guest facilities and experiences.

Dining will play a central role in the onboard experience, with venues including the main Journey’s Restaurant, The Chef’s Table specialty restaurant, outdoor dining spaces and the newly introduced Rudi’s Wine Bar. The vessel will also feature AmaWaterways’ enhanced beverage programme, offering a selection of more than 30 wines alongside complimentary beer and soft drinks during lunch and dinner. Additional dining options will include new Italian-inspired lunches at The Chef’s Table and a barbecue venue located on the Sun Deck.

Wellness facilities will include treatment rooms, beauty services, a fitness centre and dedicated relaxation areas. Guided programmes led by the company’s Wellness Hosts will offer a range of fitness classes and wellness activities both ashore and onboard. The Sun Deck will also feature a full-sized pickleball court, adding to the vessel’s recreational facilities.

A newly developed entertainment venue will serve as a social gathering space, incorporating a cinema, karaoke facilities, billiards and a jukebox. Soundproofing measures have been incorporated into the design to maintain comfort throughout the ship.

Sustainability considerations have also been incorporated into the vessel’s design. AmaRudi will operate with advanced Stage V engines and feature solar panels, shore-power connectivity, spud poles and lightweight construction materials intended to improve efficiency and reduce environmental impact while operating on European waterways.

AmaWaterways Chief Executive Officer Catherine Powell stated that the new vessel reflected the company’s confidence in the future growth of river cruising and its commitment to innovation. She indicated that the strong interest generated by AmaMagna had encouraged the company to further develop the double-width concept while maintaining the service standards and intimate atmosphere that have defined the brand for more than two decades.

Since entering service, AmaMagna has attracted considerable attention for its spacious accommodation and expanded public areas. AmaRudi is expected to continue that approach when she begins operating on the Danube in spring 2027, sailing a selection of the company’s established itineraries, with further details regarding accommodations, onboard experiences and reservations to be released in the coming months.
