AmaRudi cabins review
Most AmaRudi cabins (89%) are staterooms with step-out balconies - a rare feature for a European river cruise ship. Most riverboats deployed on European inland waterways have predominantly French Balcony cabins.
AmaRudi's staterooms are also among the largest on any European river cruise ship. Rather than increasing passenger capacity, AmaWaterways used the ship's double-hull design to create exceptionally spacious accommodations, most of which measure 25-33 m2 (250-355 ft2) - twice the size of a standard European river cruise cabin.
Staterooms are arguably AmaRudi's greatest strength. By sacrificing passenger capacity for space, AmaWaterways created accommodations that feel much closer to luxury hotel rooms than traditional staterooms. For travelers who value spacious accommodations, abundant storage, full step-out balconies, and residential-style bathrooms, this ship sets one of the highest standards in the river cruise industry.
AmaRudi has cabins that can sleep 3 guests, and also connecting cabins for up to 4 guests, making it one of the family-friendly luxury ships on the Danube. These configurations are available only in selected categories. Triple occupancy cabins include 5x SA (on Violin Deck/3rd floor) and 17x SB (on Cello Deck/2nd floor). 6x pairs on Cello and 2 pairs on Violin decks have interconnecting doors and can be booked as one stateroom by families or small travel groups.
Cabin categories include Owner's Suite (OS, sized 66 m2/710 ft2, with separate living room, dining area, walk-in closet, guest powder room), Grand Suite (GS, sized 44 m2/475 ft2), Balcony Suites (SA/SB, sized 33 m2/355 ft2, with dual-sink bathrooms), Balcony Staterooms (AA/AB, sized 23 m2/250 ft2) and Riverview Staterooms (D/E, sized 19 m2/205 ft2, with fixed/non-opening high windows).
The ship offers 8 cabin categories, each with a maximum capacity of two guests.
Even the entry-level cabins (Riverview) feel residential rather than hotel-like. Decor is contemporary, with dark wood furniture, neutral tones, upholstered headboards, carpeting, and quality lighting. Beds can be configured as one Queen-size (200 x 160 cm) or two twin beds.
Standard furnishings include a comfortable hotel-style bed with premium linens, under-bed suitcase storage, bedside tables with wall-mounted reading lamps, sitting area (full-size sofa in suites), full-length mirrored writing desk with armchair, large wardrobe and generous drawer space, a digital safe box (in the closet), mini-refrigerator, a direct-dial phone (for internal call only), daily replenished complimentary bottled water, two long-range portable audio devices (for use during land tours and excursions), 220V/110V power outlets, individually controlled air conditioning.
All cabins are equipped with HDTVs (offering local/satellite channels and movies-on-demand), an infotainment system (with real-time bridge cam views) and complimentary Internet access. Free shipwide Wi-Fi is also available.
Each stateroom includes a private bathroom with a glass-door shower, hairdryer, premium bath amenities, and terry bathrobes. Owner's and Grand Suites have larger bathrooms with separate bathtubs and showers, and double-sink vanities. Balcony Suites' bathrooms have dual sinks and a separate toilet compartment, making them especially convenient for two guests.
Bathroom features vary by category but generally include a walk-in glass shower (with rainfall and handheld multi-jet showerheads), marble or stone finishes, heated/fog-free mirror, hairdryer, vanity with ample storage, plush towels, cotton bathrobes and slippers, and premium bath amenities.
Bath products are provided complimentary and include shampoo, conditioner, bath gel/body wash, body lotion, bar soap, shower cap, and vanity kit. Toiletries are replenished by the cabin steward as needed throughout the cruise.
Unlike French balconies found on all newbuild European riverboats, 87 (out of 98) AmaRudi staterooms feature a step-out veranda furnished with two deckchairs and a small table. The true balconies allow passengers to sit outside and enjoy the passing scenery during their luxury Danube cruise. Only the Piano Deck accommodations (11 cabins in category Riverview) lack balconies.
The higher suite categories provide additional comforts through their larger layouts and exclusive perks. Notable suite features include Espresso/coffee machine (Grand Suite and Owner's Suite), beds facing the terrace, larger balconies, and expanded sitting areas.
The Owner's Suite has a glass dining table with 3 chairs and a 3-seater couch, a dry bar, a large walk-in closet, a guest powder room (half-bath with toilet and sink), and a significantly larger bathroom.
Guests may use complimentary bicycles for shore excursions and guided land tours along the cruise itinerary route.
Complimentary shore excursions include bus transfers, walking and biking tours, and services of professional local guides. AmaWaterways offers three touring pace options: “Gentle Walkers” for a relaxed experience, “Active Walkers” for more adventurous exploration, and “Late Starter” for those preferring a later start to the day.
