The cruise industry has hit a massive new milestone as RCI-Royal Caribbean International's Legend of the Seas officially departed from the Port of Malaga, Spain, for its highly anticipated maiden voyage.
Setting sail on Monday, June 29th, 2026, this structural marvel marks the third spectacular vessel to debut in the cruise line's groundbreaking Icon class, solidifying Andalusia's status as a major powerhouse hub for Mediterranean cruise tourism. As one of the largest and most technologically sophisticated passenger ships on earth, Legend of the Seas boasts a staggering 248,663 gross tons and stretches 365 meters in length. At maximum capacity, the vessel accommodates more than 5,610 eager vacationers along with a dedicated international crew of 2,350 professionals.
The 4-night premiere itinerary introduces the ship to the European market via an exclusive route, stopping at Tarragona, Spain, and La Spezia, Italy, before concluding its journey in Civitavecchia (Rome). The ship’s design spans 20 expansive decks packed with amenities that elevate onboard amusement to unprecedented levels. Thrill-seekers can test their bravery at the Category 6 water park, which ranks as the largest at sea with six record-breaking waterslides. For those looking to unwind, the ship features seven distinct swimming pools, including the gravity-defying, suspended "Hideaway" pool, alongside a lush Central Park neighborhood meticulously engineered with more than 33,500 real, living plants.
Port authorities celebrated the morning arrival with a traditional plaque exchange ceremony with the ship's captain, followed by a dramatic evening departure featuring a spectacular fireworks display visible across the entire Malaga coastline.
