HAL-Holland America Line has announced that ms Zuiderdam will become the second vessel to undergo refurbishment as part of the company's Holland America Evolution programme, the largest fleet modernisation initiative in its 153-year history. Following Oosterdam, the Vista-class ship will receive a series of enhancements that introduce signature Pinnacle Class features, expanded accommodation options and new public venues. Bookings for Zuiderdam's first voyages following the transformation are scheduled to open on July 30th.
The refurbishment will significantly expand the ship's accommodation offering with the introduction of a redesigned Pinnacle Suite, two new Bridgeview Suites, 14 Vista Suites and 32 Solo Verandah staterooms. Existing accommodations throughout the vessel will also be refreshed as part of the programme, while preserving the spacious layout for which Zuiderdam is recognised. Holland America Line stated that the strong demand for the new Bridgeview Suites and Solo Verandah cabins introduced aboard Oosterdam had encouraged the company to extend these accommodation categories to Zuiderdam, with further itinerary details to be released in due course.
The newly introduced Bridgeview Suites will be positioned above the bridge and will feature forward-facing panoramic views, wraparound windows, private balconies and separate living and sleeping areas. Purpose-built Solo Verandah staterooms will provide private balcony accommodation specifically designed for individual travellers, while Vista Suites, previously available only on Pinnacle Class vessels, will offer larger cabins with sitting areas, private verandahs and enhanced natural light. The reimagined Pinnacle Suite will become the ship's premier accommodation, incorporating larger residential-style living spaces and panoramic ocean views.
As part of the refurbishment, Zuiderdam will also gain the Grand Dutch Café, extending one of Holland America Line's best-known Pinnacle Class venues to another ship in the fleet. Inspired by traditional cafés in the Netherlands, the all-day venue will serve specialty coffees, light meals, beer, wine and aperitifs in an informal setting designed for socialising throughout the day. According to the company, the café aboard Zuiderdam will be the largest introduced under the Evolution programme.
The announcement represents the next phase of Holland America Evolution, a multi-year investment programme that will modernise six vessels across the fleet by introducing new accommodation categories, upgraded public spaces and selected features previously exclusive to the line's Pinnacle Class ships. Oosterdam will be the first vessel to return to service following its refurbishment, with bookings already open for its inaugural post-modernisation voyages.
