ms Zuiderdam deck plans

MS Zuiderdam (2002-built, last refurbished in November 2025) is the first of the four Vista-class Holland America ships (together with ms Noordam, ms Oosterdam and ms Westerdam) and also shares the class with the P&O Cruises ship Arcadia. The vessel’s name signifies the southern point of the compass in Dutch.

Zuiderdam’s deck plan shows a total of 985 staterooms accommodating 1970 passengers (maximum capacity 2364), served by 820 crew. The ship has 11 passenger decks (7 with cabins), 13 lounges and bars, 3 swimming pools (one with a retractable glass roof), 6 outdoor Jacuzzis, and 14 elevators (4 with scenic glass walls).

In 2016, Holland America Line updated Zuiderdam’s shipboard programming across enrichment, entertainment, and children’s activities, replacing “Dancing With the Stars” with new “BBC Earth” content.

• The ship’s theater hosts daily expert lectures and presentations, a nature-themed game show with BBC Earth footage, and evening concerts based on the “Frozen Planet” program – a polar-regions multimedia show accompanied by live musicians.
• The children’s club facilities feature an explorer trail, workshops (including journalism and filming), and themed fact shows (animals, dinosaurs).
• On select Holland America themed cruises, guests gain access to BBC Earth series creators, behind-the-scenes media, and storytelling sessions. Children may participate in filming workshops.

Zuiderdam Deck Plan Changes – 2015 Refurbishment Review

During a major drydock refit in 2007, the Zuiderdam was stretched by adding a 130 ft / 40 m midsection.

Drydock 2025

Zuiderdam’s most recent drydock refurbishment (November 22 to December 6, 2025) was conducted at Grand Bahama Shipyard in Freeport.

The 2-week project resulted in the following upgrades:

The Crow’s Nest Lounge received a new small bandstand for live performances and special events, along with upgraded lighting and audio systems.

Stateroom enhancements included 11 new oceanview cabins (added on Decks 1 and 7) and general renovations such as new carpeting in all balcony cabins on Decks 5 through 10 and in all Neptune, Signature, and Pinnacle Suites. All Deck 8 Verandah cabin bathrooms were fully updated (floors, walls, vanities, mirrors, bathtubs).

More than 300 staterooms received new bathroom flooring and wallpaper.

Additional areas updated with new carpeting included the Atrium, Main Dining Room, Lido Market/Buffet Restaurant, Canaletto (Lido annex), Greenhouse Spa & Salon, all passenger-deck hallways/corridors, stairwells, and elevator lobbies. Upholstery for dining chairs and banquettes in Canaletto and Lido Market was also refreshed.

The Photo Gallery and Retail shops were redesigned with new sales counters.

The sundeck and hydro pool area received new outdoor furniture.

Drydock 2019

From December 1–9, 2019, the ship underwent a USD 16 million drydock in Freeport.

The project included comprehensive stateroom renovations: new carpeting and furniture, updated wall coverings, quartz desktops, additional USB outlets, upgraded vanity fixtures, and new Nespresso coffee makers and LCD TVs.

Routine maintenance covered machinery checks, safety inspections, and hull works (underwater servicing, cleaning, repainting).

Drydock 2015

During the April 2015 drydock, new staterooms were added on the Observation Deck 10.

The project also introduced The Retreat (adults-only sundeck) on the Sports Deck 11, replacing the two former Canvas Cover areas.

(New) Room Service Menu

Since December 2016, Zuiderdam has offered an expanded room service menu combining complimentary Continental options with à la carte breakfast selections, as well as sample dishes from onboard specialty venues (Pinnacle Grill, Tamarind, Dive-In Burgers).

• Complimentary starters, entrées, sandwiches, and desserts are available 24 hours a day.
• Pinnacle and Neptune Suite guests receive complimentary à la carte breakfast and specialty beverages.
• The Tamarind menu offers Seafood, Vegetarian, and Land & Sea bento boxes, each priced at USD 9.75.
• The Dive-In menu features assorted burgers served with fries, each priced at USD 4.95.
• The Pinnacle Grill menu offers a steak dish (USD 15) and lobster (USD 20).
• A sample complimentary breakfast item is scrambled eggs with hash browns and breakfast meats. Additional à la carte dishes include steak and eggs (USD 9.50), smoked salmon Benedict (USD 7.50), and a fruit smoothie with Greek yogurt (USD 4.95).
• A dedicated kids’ menu (complimentary) includes chicken tenders, mac & cheese, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and other snacks.
