Deck layouts, review of facilities, activities, amenities
ms Westerdam deck plan review at CruiseMapper provides newest cruise deck plans (2026-2027-2028 valid floor layouts of the vessel) extracted from the officially issued by Holland America deckplan pdf (printable version).
Each of the ms Westerdam cruise ship deck plans are conveniently combined with a legend (showing cabin codes) and detailed review of all the deck's venues and passenger-accessible indoor and outdoor areas. A separate link provides an extensive information on ms Westerdam staterooms (cabins and suites), including photos, cabin plans and amenities by room type and category.
MS Westerdam (2004-built, last refurbished in February 2023) is the third of the four Vista-class Holland America ships (together with ms Noordam, ms Oosterdam, and ms Zuiderdam) and is also the P&O Cruises ship Arcadia. A previous vessel operating under the same name was later renamed Marella Dream. The name Westerdam signifies the western point of the compass in Dutch.
Westerdam’s deck plan shows 984 staterooms for 1,968 passengers (maximum capacity 2,362), served by 820 crew. The ship has 11 passenger decks (7 with cabins), 14 lounges and bars, 3 swimming pools (one with a retractable glass roof), 5 outdoor Jacuzzis, and 14 elevators (4 of which are scenic with glass walls).
In 2016, Holland America Line updated MS Westerdam’s shipboard programming—enrichment, entertainment, and children’s facilities—replacing the former “Dancing With the Stars” activities with “BBC Earth” content.
- The theatre hosts daily expert lectures, presentations, a nature-themed game show, and BBC Earth screenings with introductions by the filming crews. A signature evening concert is based on the “Frozen Planet” program (polar-regions theme), combining spectacular multimedia visuals with live musicians.
- The children’s facilities feature an explorer trail, workshops (including journalism and filming), and educational fact shows (animals, dinosaurs).
- On Holland America-themed cruises, guests enjoy access to BBC Earth series creators, behind-the-scenes stories, and media. Children can participate in supervised filming workshops.
Westerdam deck plan changes – 2017 refurbishment review
The ship’s 2017 drydock refurbishment (April 14–26, completed by Fincantieri in Palermo, Sicily) resulted in the following deck plan changes:
- (Deck 10) 25 new balcony and inside cabins were added on Observation Deck 10.
- (Decks 1 and 2) Vista Lounge (the ship’s theatre) was renamed “The Main Stage.”
- (Deck 2) Lincoln Center Stage (chamber music venue) was added starboard; Sports Bar was transformed into Billboard Onboard.
- (Deck 11) The Retreat (adults-only sundeck area) was added on Sports Deck 11, replacing the two Canvas Cover areas.
Major deck plan changes after the ship’s extensive refit and lengthening in April 2007 (the vessel was extended by 130 ft / 40 m) included:
- 34 new passenger cabins added aft on Decks 6, 7, and 8, which narrowed some of the aft-located balconies.
- Redesign of several public spaces, including:
- expanded Sea View Pool area (aft on Lido Deck 9)
- modifications in the Library/Shopping Arcade area—the Windstar Café and Internet area were removed and replaced with new shops
- the Oak Room was replaced by the Explorations Café, added to the Crow’s Nest on Observation Deck 10
General maintenance drydocks (completed by Sembcorp Marine in Singapore) were conducted in January 2020 and January 2023.
