MS Koningsdam (built in 2016, last refurbished in 2023) is the first Pinnacle-class liner in the Holland America fleet, with sisterships Nieuw Statendam (2018) and Nieuw Rotterdam (2021). The ship’s name translates from Dutch as “King” (“Koning”), while “dam” is the traditional suffix for HAL ships. The name also honors HM King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands. Pinnacle-class vessels are the newest and largest in Holland America’s fleet.

Koningsdam’s deck plan shows a total of 1,331 staterooms accommodating 2,650 passengers (maximum capacity 3,194) and served by 1,025 crew members. The ship has 13 passenger decks (8 with cabins), 17 lounges and bars, 2 swimming pools (one with a retractable glass roof), 5 outdoor whirlpool hot tubs, and 12 elevators.

There are no self-service laundry facilities (laundrettes/laundromats) on the ship. Laundry services are provided by the hotel staff for an additional fee.

Signature activities and amenities available exclusively on Holland America ships include:

• Itinerary-themed specialty teas and snacks – Afternoon Tea service offers a unique cultural experience featuring locally sourced teas paired with regionally inspired sweets and savories. Creamy milkshakes are also served.
• Traditional Dutch pea soup (with pork) is served outdoors during cold-weather itineraries, such as Alaska or Norway’s Fjords, where steaming mugs of soup are offered on the pool deck.
• All HAL ships have a Catholic priest onboard and offer daily non-denominational services.
• “BB King’s Blues Club” (Plaza Deck 2) features live 8-piece band performances nightly (three shows per evening). This themed music venue is also found on HAL’s Eurodam, Nieuw Amsterdam, Noordam, Oosterdam, Rotterdam, Westerdam, and Zuiderdam.
• The digital edition of “The New York Times” is available for free through HAL’s partnership with the newspaper, accessible at the Explorations Café computers.
• Signature dishes by celebrity chefs – many of the Main Dining Room’s offerings are curated by the line’s “Culinary Council,” which includes six renowned international chefs. Among them are Jacques Torres (“Mr. Chocolate,” pastry chef), Jonnie Boer (Michelin-starred chef, co-owner of De Librije in the Netherlands), David Burke (“Iron Chef America”), and HAL’s master chef Rudolf “Rudi” Sodamin.

Holland America Koningsdam’s onboard programming for enrichment, entertainment, and children’s activities is based on “BBC Earth” content.

• The ship’s theater hosts expert lectures, presentations, and nature-themed game shows featuring BBC Earth footage and behind-the-scenes introductions from the crews who filmed the series. A signature evening concert inspired by the “Frozen Planet” program showcases a spectacular multimedia performance accompanied by live musicians.
• The children’s club facilities include an explorer trail, workshops (covering journalism and filmmaking), and educational programs about animals and dinosaurs.
• On HAL’s themed BBC Earth cruises, passengers can meet the series’ creators, view exclusive behind-the-scenes footage, and participate in interactive media workshops. Children can also take part in hands-on filming activities.

Room Service Menu (New)

Since December 2016, Holland America Koningsdam has offered an updated room service menu featuring a mix of complimentary Continental and à la carte breakfast items, along with selections from specialty restaurants such as Pinnacle Grill, Tamarind, and Dive-In Burgers.

• Complimentary starters, entrées, sandwiches, and desserts are available 24 hours a day.
• Pinnacle and Neptune Suite guests enjoy complimentary à la carte breakfast and specialty beverages.
• The Tamarind menu includes Seafood, Vegetarian, and Land & Sea bento boxes – each priced at USD 9.75.
• The Dive-In menu features a variety of burgers with fries, each priced at USD 4.95.
• The Pinnacle Grill menu offers steak for USD 15 and lobster for USD 20.
• Breakfast options include complimentary scrambled eggs with hash browns and breakfast meats. Additional items include steak and eggs (USD 9.50), smoked salmon benedict (USD 7.50), and fruit smoothie with Greek yogurt (USD 4.95).

A separate children’s menu is available free of charge, featuring chicken tenders, mac & cheese, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and other kid-friendly snacks.
