MSC Cruises' new flagship, MSC World Asia, the third vessel in the WORLD Class series, has entered the sea trial phase following its departure from the Chantiers de l'Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France.
The milestone marks the start of technical and operational testing ahead of the ship's scheduled delivery later this year and its maiden voyage in December.
During the trials, shipyard engineers and technical specialists are evaluating the vessel's manoeuvrability, propulsion systems, navigation equipment, safety systems and the performance of onboard technologies under operational conditions. The tests form a key stage of the vessel's commissioning programme before final acceptance by MSC.
Following the completion of sea trials, MSC World Asia will return to Saint-Nazaire for the final outfitting and finishing work before being delivered to MSC. Delivery is scheduled for late 2026, ahead of the vessel's inaugural cruise programme in the Mediterranean beginning in December.
The LNG-powered vessel measures 333 metres in length and 47 metres in beam and is designed to accommodate ~6,700 guests. After entering service, MSC World Asia will spend its inaugural season in the Western Mediterranean.
