Royal Caribbean Cruise Ship Fails Inspection

A departure of a Royal Caribbean cruise ship was delayed at Port Canaveral on Monday night after Coast Guard inspectors discovered safety issues aboard the ship.

The issue was found during a routine annual safety check aboard Majesty of the Seas, a Coast Guard spokesman said. He did not say exactly what the problem was, but said it had to do with the life-saving equipment on board, not the ship’s engine.

Coast Guard officials will not allow the ship to leave the port until the issues are fixed.

“Once they address the issues, we’ll send a team to check that the issues have been fixed and then they’ll be on their way,” Petty Officer 3rd Class Ryan Dickinson said Monday night.

On Twitter, the company apologized to some of the delayed guests and asked for patience.
