Futuristic Cruise Moves Through Paris by Making Passengers Pedal

River Seine cruises in Paris could be getting a new line, that will see passengers slogging away on cross-trainers and spinning bikes whilst taking in city’s view.

The new futuristic concept could see a "gym boat" sailing along the Seine. Working out at the gym does not offer the best views. The idea, dubbed as Paris Navigating Gym, hopes to change that by bringing the gym on to the river.

The innovative concept has been designed by Italian firm Carlo Ratti Associati.

The fitness centre will be the main feature on this sleek, 65 ft long vessel with glass walls, so passengers can take in the city’s sights.

It will harness the energy from the passengers’ workouts to glide the boat along the river.

The boat will have spinning bikes and cross-trainers on board and will be able to house up to 45 people at a time.

Passengers will be able to see the amount of energy sourced from their workout alongside data about the River Seine’s environmental condition in real-time on augmented-reality screens.

If given the go ahead, the futuristic cruise could become a reality within 18 months.

Carol’s firm collaborated with a non-profit, New York-based architecture group Terraform ONE on the plans.

The design pays tribute to the traditional ferry-boats - Bateaux Mouches - that have carried tourists up and down the River Seine since the early 20th century.

The gym boat is at a concept stage - but associates at the Italian firm hope to set sail in it soon, and not just in Paris.
