Celebrity Cruises' first new ship in 6 years begins sailing with paying passengers on Saturday, December 1, for the first time.

The 2,918-passenger Celebrity Edge departs Port Everglades, Florida Saturday afternoon on a 3-night voyage to Nassau, Bahamas. The ship will return to Fort Lauderdale early on Tuesday, December 4.

Unveiled to media and travel agents earlier this week, Celebrity Edge is the prototype for a new series of Celebrity vessels named the Edge-Class.

Celebrity Edge arrived at Port Everglades after a 15-night voyage from the French shipyard where she had been under construction for over a year. It is due to be christened on December 4.

Following an initial series of short trips to the Bahamas from Port Everglades, the ship will operate week-long voyages to the Caribbean from the cruise hub through the spring. It will move to the Mediterranean in summer 2019.
