The Secretariat of the Navy of Mexico recently responded to a medical evacuation request of an American passenger by the cruise ship’s captain.

The medevac was carried out by naval health personnel after the captain of Crystal Cruises' Crystal Symphony made the call for help.

The medical evacuation took place close to Punta Sur at Isla Mujeres. The 76-year-old man was removed from the cruise ship and transported to an ambulance waiting on land. The American passenger was transferred to a hospital in Cancun for internal bleeding. He was listed in stable condition.

At the time of the accident the ship was sailing on a 7-day, round-trip Tropical Escape cruise from Miami FL, with ports of call including Costa Maya, Belize City, Cozumel, and Key West.
