A new project enables tourists, who arrive in Cochin India on cruise ships, to roam around the port city on cycles. The project was introduced by the Ernakulam District Tourism Promotion Council. Travelers can experience views of the backwaters as well as learn about the history of the region on cycles.

The service is aimed mainly at cruise tourists. Blue Tiger tours were tapped to execute the tour program including a 12-25 kilometer bike drive that would cost around Rs 3,000-4,000.

Blue Tigers tours had earlier said that they would introduce twenty bikes with gear in the initial stages, stationed close to Cochin Port Trust office. Travelers can hire a guide for their cycling trips. The program offers individual, couple and group tours. The cycle rides will be arranged to Willingdon Island and Fort Kochi to understand the history and culture of Kochi, along with enjoying a ride.

The department doesn't expect much turnout in 2019 but is anticipating a good number of vacationers opting for the tours from 2020 onwards.

Last year, fifty ships docked in Kochi port bringing around 1,000 passengers each which is the highest cruise turnout in comparison with all other ports in India.
