Cambodia asked Chinese investors to consider investing in cruise shipping services between Cambodia and China, aiming to boost the travel of Chinese vacationers to Cambodia and vice versa.

During a recent visit to China's Hainan Province, secretary of state of Ministry of Tourism Hun Dany raised the idea among Chinese investors. He suggested Chinese investors weigh up the idea of service from Hainan island to Preah Sihanouk province, where ships carrying cruise passengers could dock for a short visit.

The cruise service was one of a number of tourism development ideas proposed by Cambodia. The Cambodian government has labelled 2020 The Year of Tourism.

According to the ministry’s spokesman, Top Sopheak, a cruise tourism service between Cambodia and China would be a good investment project that was expected to promote the Cambodian tourism sector to Chinese people.

Mr Sopheak said the Sihanoukville deepwater port has already cruise docking facilities and handles foreign tourists from the USA, Canada and European countries.
