Windstar Introduces New Officer’s Suite

Windstar Cruises-owned ship Wind Surf (5-masted schooner / sail ship) just emerged from a major drydock refit with a brand new cabin category (Officer’s Suite). The nautically-decorated accommodation is located directly behind the Wheelhouse (Navigation Bridge), in a “crew only” area on Deck 5 forward-starboard.

While all of the line’s 6 ships feature an open Bridge, the Officer’s Suite is the only public accommodation found in the officers’ quarters. It is also believed to be the only suite of the kind at sea and probably the ultimate accommodation for true cruise enthusiasts.

The 242 ft2 (22.5 m2) Officer’s Suite provides a bedroom, a living room with a widescreen television, and full bath with Jacuzzi tub. Its decor includes a Wind Surf print, binoculars, sextant, and a museum-quality model of a J-class sailing ship.

The Wind Surf ship went into the drydock during the 2019 fall and received a major renaissance from the outer hull (with a complete sandblasting and painting) to every stateroom and public space onboard. Part of the evolution of the vessel included 16 brand new guest rooms bringing the capacity to 342 passengers (an increase from 310). New crew accommodations were also created raising the crew level to ensure a 1 to 1.5 staff to guest ratio.

Public areas now feature a more social atmosphere along with a “living room” feel with an expanded bar and lounge with a stage and new furnishings. A new state-of-the-art spa & wellness centre, World Spa by Windstar, is also the main element in the renaissance of the vessel and will be run by the cruise line's partner One Spa World.
