Viking Cruises launches new ship for Mekong River

Viking River Cruises announced it will launch a new ship in summer 2021 for its "Magnificent Mekong" cruisetour.

Currently under construction, the 80-passenger Viking Saigon is scheduled to debut on August 30, 2021. The itinerary's river cruising portion is between Kampong Cham Cambodia and Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) Vietnam.

Purpose-built for the Mekong RIver, RV Viking Saigon has max passenger capacity 80 and 40 staterooms (all-outside). Featuring clean Scandinavian design, all staterooms will feature hotel-style beds and floor-ceiling sliding glass doors that open to a French Balcony or step-out Veranda. The 3-deck Viking Saigon also features a large wellness complex (Spa & Fitness), open-air Sundeck with Sky Bar and Infinity Pool.

During the 15-day cruietour, Viking Saigon passengers will explore the cultural treasures of Cambodia and Vietnam on 16 guided tours. Hotel stays in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and Siem Reap are included, along with the 8-day Mekong River cruising. Signature shore activities include shopping at Old Hanoi’s markets, exploring the Khmer temple complex Angkor Wat (from Siem Reap, including the Ta Prohm temple) and Phnom Penh city tour by cyclo rickshaws.

On the itinerary's river cruise portion, guests can discover fishing villages, silk towns, floating markets, and monasteries. Multiple departure dates begin in August 2021. Pricing starts at USD 5300 per person, with discounted airfare from USD 1200 pp.
