Keel laid for Saga Cruises’ new riverboat Spirit of the Danube

Saga Cruises revealed it is adding a second riverboat - Spirit of the Danube, to its fleet in 2022.

The 190-passenger river cruise ship feature 2 restaurants and offer Danube cruises starting in 2022. The maiden voyage is scheduled to depart from Amsterdam Holland to Budapest Hungary Vienna Austria and Tulcea Romania.

Spirit of the Danube's sistership Spirit of the Rhine is scheduled for inauguration in May 2021. With these newbuild riverboats, Saga targets predominantly the UK source market.

Celebrity chef Mark Sargeant is expected to join selected sailings when Spirit of the Danube boat enters service. He will unveil a signature dish in one of the dining venues. TV presenter and natural historian Miranda Krestovnikoff, horticulturist Sir Roddy Llewellyn, and antiques expert Eric Knowles will join other Spirit of the Danube cruises.

The ship’s official keel-laying ceremony took place on Wednesday, February 10, at Vahali Shipyard in Zasavica (Sremska Mitrovica, Serbia).
