P&O UK's second Excel-class cruise ship named Arvia

The Carnival Corporation-owned company P&O Cruises UK announced the name of its second Excel-class ship - "MS Arvia".

The LNG-powered vessel is sistership to the 2020-launched Iona (scheduled for inauguration in ). The newbuild is scheduled for delivery and inauguration in December 2022.

Arvia (currently under construction at Meyer Werft's Papenburg Shipyard) by design is identical to P&O Iona. Both liners are with LNG drive systems (powered by liquefied natural gas) - the cleanest ship propulsion technology currently available.

P&O Cruises announcement reads:

“We are delighted to reveal that the newest member of the P&O Cruises fleet will be called Arvia, meaning “from the seashore.” Arvia is set to join the fleet in December 2022. Keep an eye out as holidays go on sale next month.” 

Like Iona, Arvia ship has 19 decks (16 passenger-accessible, 11 with cabins), 2610 staterooms for 5204 passengers/lower berths (max capacity is 6264 pax plus 1762 staff-crew), 17 dining venues, 12 bars-lounges, 13 entertainment venues, 4 swimming pools, 18 outdoor Jacuzzis, kids-dedicated zones, 22 elevators.

Both vessels are with LOA length 345 m (1130 ft), width 42 m (138 ft), powerplant with 4x Wartsila LNG engines generating combined output 57,2 MW (76706 HP). The propulsion system (two Azimuting thrusters) has a combined power 37 MW (49618 HP).
