Belfast ME is a port city located in Waldo County (Maine, USA). The city has a total area of 99,38 km2 (38,37 ml2) and a population around 7,000 inhabitants. The port is located at the mouth of Passagassawakeag River estuary (Penobscot Bay).
- Belfast ME seaport features a wealth of antique architecture in a few historic districts, and remains very popular with tourists. City's popular tourist sites include: Belfast Free Library (public library founded in 1887), Belfast Historical Society & Museum, Perry's Nut House, Front Street Shipyard, Belfast City Park (established in 1904).
- During the early 1990s, popular credit-card giant MBNA established a couple of facilities in Belfast. The company was of great importance for the establishment of Hutchinson Center of University of Maine, outpost of University of Maine System. Jobs provided by MBNA, that was acquired by Bank of America, helped increase the population of Belfast significantly. The Bank consolidated former MBNA operations in the bigger of the two facilities. MBNA's smaller complex was then taken over by athenahealth (USA).
- Shipbuilding was re-established on the waterfront of Belfast in 1996 via the opening of French & Webb, Inc., wooden yacht builders and restorers. In 2013, Front Street Shipyard opened a boatyard on Belfast Bay. Together, the companies restored the working waterfront of the port city and helped revive its economy as well as appeal to travellers.
