  • 2020-2021 - delayed delivery (due to Coronavirus), 16 canceled inaugural cruises

January 2023Cruise Illness / Virus Outbreaks

In January 2023, CDC reported an outbreak of Norovirus infecting 15 passengers (out of 521, or 2,8%) and 13 crew (out of 413, or 3,15%). The predominant symptom of the patients was diarrhea.

The gastrointestinal illness outbreak occurred during the 16-day "Christmas and New Year Cruise" from South America to USA/Florida (itinerary Dec 21 - Jan 6, from Callao-Lima Peru to Fort Lauderdale) with call ports in Peru (Salaverry-Trujillo), Ecuador (Guayaquil), Panama (Panama City, Panama Canal transit), Costa Rica (Puerto Limon), Honduras (Roatan Island's Coxen Hole), Belize City, and Mexico (Cozumel).

March 2021Other Incidents

In early-March 2021 were canceled all scheduled for Silver Moon departures through May 31, 2021. The Maiden Voyage was rescheduled from April 1 to June 7 (7-day Mediterranean from Lisbon to Barcelona).

December 2020Other Incidents

In early-December 2020, Silverseas canceled all scheduled for Silver Moon itineraries through March 2021. The new ship's Inaugural Cruise was rescheduled for April 1 (12-day Mediterranean itinerary from Barcelona to Piraeus-Athens).

May 2020Structural and Technical Issues

in mid-May 2020, Silversea Cruises announced that due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic (shipbuilding yard closure), the vessel's delivery from Fincantieri's Sestri Ponente (near Genoa, Italy) will be delayed. The delay was due to shipbuilding yard's closure, as well as the EU's country lockdowns (border closures) which suspended vessel's outfitting as most of the ordered customized items (furniture, fixtures, artworks) became stuck at customs for 3+ months.

As result of the delayed delivery, 6 itineraries were cancelled and Silver Moon's Inaugural Cruise was rescheduled from August 6 to October 2. Eventually, the new ship's entire 2020 program was cancelled and the maiden voyage rescheduled for January 7, 2021.

Due to the closure of Shipyard De Hoop BV (in Lobith, Holland) was also delayed the delivery of the fleetmate Silver Origin.
