Asuka II Refurbishment 2020 Review
In January-February 2020, the ship underwent a 45-day drydock refurbishment at Singapore’s Sembcorp Marine Admiralty Yard (owned by Sembcorp Marine Ltd).
During the drydock, the vessel received several new and upgraded features, including:
- All staterooms were extensively renovated and redesigned, featuring traditional Japanese tatami-mat flooring in the sleeping areas. Each cabin was also equipped with smart HDTVs and an infotainment system offering Internet access and on-demand movies.
- A new reading lounge was added, offering a quiet space with an extensive book collection, Wi-Fi, Internet access for smart devices, and PC stations.
- Several onboard restaurants were refurbished.
- A large UHD LED display was installed in the entrance hall on the Lobby Deck.
- Wi-Fi coverage was upgraded to provide shipwide access, available in all staterooms and public areas, with the exception of a few designated quiet zones.
- A large outdoor Jacuzzi (whirlpool bath) was added on the Sun Deck.
Technical upgrades included the installation of a scrubber system—an air pollution control device designed to remove particulates and certain greenhouse gases (SOx and NOx) from the ship's exhaust emissions.
