Viking Freya (built in 2012) is one of the new-generation Viking Cruises longships. The river cruise ship is named after Freya, the passionate Norse goddess of love, beauty, and fertility. The daughter of Njord (god of the sea), Freya and her brother Freyr (god of harvest) were worshipped for prosperity, good harvests, and large families. Freya is also the ruler of Folkvangr (the afterlife realm), and her name in Old Norse means “lady.”
The Viking Freya deck plan features a total of 95 staterooms accommodating 190 passengers, served by 50 crew and staff. The ship has 4 passenger decks and 1 glass elevator (connecting the Main and Upper decks only). Viking Freya does not have a gym, swimming pool/whirlpool, or spa. However, guests may use health and spa facilities at luxury hotels along the ship’s itinerary.
