Viking Torgil (built in 2014 and chartered through a partnership with Douro Azul) is one of the modified-design (smaller-sized) Viking longships operating on Portugal’s Douro River, together with Hemming (2014), Osfrid (2016), Helgrim (2019), Gyda (2025), and Sol (2027).
This riverboat is named after Torgil, a Danish explorer. According to historical accounts, Torgil (Thorgisl) and his brother Frode, sons of the Danish king Harald, sailed westward to raid the lands of Bretland (Wales and western England), Scotland, Ireland, and as far south as Portugal. They are also known as Viking conquerors of Dublin, Ireland (841 AD), where they became its first rulers.
Viking Torgil’s deck plan includes a total of 53 staterooms for 106 passengers, served by 30 crew and staff, across 4 passenger decks. The ship features 1 swimming pool and 1 elevator (connecting the Main, Middle, and Upper decks only).
The vessel does not have a gym or spa. However, guests may access health and spa facilities at luxury hotels along the cruise itinerary.
