Viking Freya

The 2012-built Longship Viking Freya cruises on the Danube River, visiting destinations in Austria, Germany, Hungary, and Slovakia, with departures from Nuremberg, Budapest, and Passau.

This Viking longship is named after Freya—in Norse mythology, the goddess and ruler of the afterlife realm, and the daughter of Njord (the sea god).

The vessel (ENI number 7001954) is currently Switzerland-flagged (MMSI 269057390) and registered in Basel.

Viking Freya has a total of 95 staterooms (including 9 Suites, 22 French Balcony cabins, and 25 with non-opening windows) across 8 cabin categories.

• Balcony Staterooms - A (x20, Deck 3), B (x17, Deck 2)

Shipboard facilities

Dining options onboard Viking Freya include the Freya Restaurant (main dining room) and the Aquavit Terrace (al fresco dining). Other facilities include an Observation Lounge, Atrium (lobby), Library (Internet Lounge), Shop (gifts and souvenirs), and a top-deck Sun Deck featuring a shaded relaxation area, Sky Bar, Herb Garden, putting green, walking track, and shuffleboard.

The Viking Freya longship does not have a fitness/gym room, swimming pool, Jacuzzi, or spa.

Viking Freya cruise fares include Wi-Fi internet, all shore excursions, ground transfers, live evening entertainment, daily lectures, food and wine tastings, 24-hour coffee and tea, and daily replenished bottled water.

Viking Freya river cruise prices are per person, based on double occupancy. These are indicative rates and may vary depending on travel agency promotions, special offers, group bookings, or last-minute deals. On select Danube itineraries, Viking may also offer discounted round-trip airfare from the USA (on selected cabins, dates, or itineraries).

River Cruise Itineraries

Below is a list of Viking Freya river cruise itineraries (themes) officially announced by Viking Cruises:

• "ROMANTIC DANUBE" (also "Christmas Markets") – 7-day cruises from Nuremberg to Budapest and reverse. These itineraries visit 3 countries (Austria, Germany, Hungary) and include 6 complimentary guided excursions. Optional hotel extensions include 2 nights in Nuremberg or 3 nights in Prague (Czech Republic). On departures from Germany (Nuremberg), cruising begins on Day 2 with a passage through the Main-Danube Canal and ends in Budapest (optional 2-night hotel stay).
• "DANUBE WALTZ" – 7-day cruises from Budapest to Passau and reverse. These itineraries visit 4 countries and include 6 complimentary excursions, with an optional 3-night Prague hotel extension. Passau embarkation includes a bus transfer from Munich to Passau.

Transfers to/from Viking Freya and airport meet-and-greet services are included in the cruise fare only when air travel is purchased through the Viking cruise line.

Viking Freya is part of the latest generation of Viking Cruises longships. This patented river cruise ship design allows for larger passenger accommodations without reducing public space or compromising overall onboard comfort. The vessel represents the line’s modern Longship-class design, featuring energy-efficient hybrid engine technology, solar panels, and an interior developed by "Yran & Storbraaten" (Norway). The patented "longship" concept (by "Rottet Studios", USA) enables significantly larger accommodations with full-size balconies. The additional cabin space is achieved by shifting the deck corridor 1 m (3.3 ft) off-center.

The riverboat’s godmother is Mrs. Rebecca Eaton, a PBS TV and film producer (also executive producer of the PBS drama series "Masterpiece Theatre"). The ship’s christening ceremony was held in Rostock, Germany. On March 21, 2012, Freya was inaugurated together with the Viking longship Njord (both in Rostock), and via live satellite link with Amsterdam—also alongside Idun and Odin.
