Viking Fulla Review

Review of Viking Fulla

The 2027-built Longship Viking Fulla cruises on the Rhine River, visiting destinations in Holland, Germany, France, and Switzerland. The Viking longship departs from homeports Amsterdam and Basel.

This riverboat is named after Fulla—in Norse mythology, a trusted handmaiden of Frigg (a goddess associated with marriage, motherhood, prophecy, and clairvoyance). Fulla is the keeper of treasures and secrets and is renowned for her role as a guardian of prosperity.

The vessel (ENI number TBA) will be Switzerland-flagged (MMSI TBA) and registered in Basel.

All Viking River Cruises Longships are equipped with solar panels (mounted aft on the Sun Deck) and hybrid (diesel-electric) powerplants based on energy-efficient marine engines.

Cabins

Viking Fulla has a total of 95 staterooms (including 9 Suites, 39 Balcony, 22 French Balcony, and 25 Porthole cabins with non-opening windows) across 8 cabin categories and accommodates up to 190 passengers.

The Longship Fulla has two aft-located Explorer Suites with wraparound balconies offering panoramic 270-degree views. Each of the seven Veranda Suites features two separate rooms and includes a step-out balcony (accessed from the living room) and a French balcony in the bedroom. The 39 Veranda Staterooms each have a private step-out balcony.

The ship accommodates up to 190 passengers, served by 53 crew members, all provided with modern hotel-style amenities and high-quality travel and leisure services.

Shipboard facilities

The Observation Bar Lounge features floor-to-ceiling glass doors opening onto the Aquavit Terrace, a bow-located indoor-outdoor venue designed for relaxation and alfresco dining. The Sun Deck is serviced by the Aquavit Terrace staff and provides 360-degree unobstructed river views. This top deck includes a forward Sun Deck with Sky Bar (outdoor seating area with tables and deckchairs), SkyLight (glass roof over the Atrium), Wheelhouse (Navigation Bridge), a midship section with shaded seating (covered by a large retractable awning and encircled by a walking track), a sunbathing area (with loungers), and an aft Sun Deck with a putting green (mini-golf), Herb Garden (organic herb garden), and deck games area (shuffleboard and giant outdoor chessboard).

Onboard dining options include the Fulla Restaurant (main dining room) and the Aquavit Terrace (Lido buffet with sliding glass doors opening onto the alfresco terrace). Other facilities include a two-deck Atrium (lobby with 24-hour Reception Desk), Library (Internet Lounge), and Shop (gifts and souvenirs). Viking Cruises Longships do not have a fitness/gym room, swimming pool, Jacuzzi (outdoor whirlpool), spa/beauty salon, or self-service laundry facilities (laundromats).

One elevator (passenger lift) connects only Decks 2 and 3. All decks are also interconnected via stairs—forward (Grand Staircase in the Atrium), midship, and aft.

Itineraries

Below is a list of Viking Fulla itineraries (themes) officially announced for the inaugural 2027 season:

  • "CHRISTMAS ON THE RHINE" is an 8-day voyage from Amsterdam to Basel. The itinerary visits four countries and includes eight complimentary guided tours. Disembarkation in Basel can be followed by optional 2-night hotel packages—"Basel at Christmas" and "Lucerne at Christmas."

Viking Fulla cruise fares include Wi-Fi internet, all shore excursions, ground transfers, live evening entertainment, daily lectures and presentations, food and wine tastings, 24-hour coffee and tea, and daily replenished bottled water.

Viking River Cruises prices are per person, based on double occupancy. These are indicative rates and may vary depending on travel agency promotions, special offers, group bookings, or last-minute deals.

Ship-to/from-airport transfers and meet-and-greet services are included only when air travel is booked through Viking Cruises (via the Viking Air package).

Viking Fulla Wiki

Viking Fulla is one of the largest longships operated by Viking Cruises. This patented river cruise ship design allows for larger passenger accommodations without reducing public space or compromising overall onboard comfort.

The Longship Fulla represents Viking’s latest design, featuring energy-efficient hybrid engine technology, solar panels, and an interior developed by "Yran & Storbraaten" (Norway). The patented "longship" concept (by "Rottet Studios", USA) enables significantly larger accommodations with full-size, step-out balconies. The additional cabin space is achieved by shifting the deck corridor 1 m (3.3 ft) off-center.

The vessel’s powerplant consists of two main Caterpillar marine diesel engines (model CAT32-ACERT) with a total output of 2 MW. These are V12 engines (V-configuration with 12 cylinders). The propulsion system is based on two Caterpillar marine propulsion units (model CAT18-ACERT) with a combined output of 1 MW.
