Viking Tir Review

Review of Viking Tir

The 2019-built Longship Viking Tir is one of six Viking River Cruises ships delivered in 2019. The other sister ships launched that year are Einar, Sigrun, Sigyn, Ullur, and Vali. These riverboats were deployed in Europe on the Rhine and Danube rivers.

Each Viking longship features an innovative corridor configuration (patented design), modern engineering and technologies, signature Scandinavian-themed decor, premium stateroom amenities, itinerary-based and expert-led enrichment programs, themed onboard entertainment, and efficient use of public spaces. They also include Viking’s signature Aquavit Terrace lounge and a large number of balcony cabins, including two of the largest suites in European river cruising, each with a separate bedroom and living room.

The longship offers two Explorer Suites with 270-degree views and private wraparound balconies. The ship’s 7 Veranda Suites feature two separate rooms—a living room (with a step-out balcony) and a bedroom (with a French balcony). There are also 39 Veranda Staterooms.

Shipboard facilities

Viking Tir dining venues include Tir Restaurant (main dining room) and the Aquavit Terrace (al fresco). The Aquavit Terrace (indoor-outdoor lounge) is located at the bow. The Observation Lounge features floor-to-ceiling glass doors for panoramic views. The Sun Deck offers both sunbathing and shaded seating areas, along with 360-degree views. Additional facilities include an Atrium (lobby), Library (with Internet access), Shop (gifts and souvenirs), Sky Bar, Herbal Garden, putting green, walking track, and shuffleboard. The longship does not have a gym, swimming pool, jacuzzi, or spa.

Viking Tir cruise fares include Wi-Fi Internet, all tours and excursions, ground transfers, live evening entertainment, daily lectures, food and wine tastings, 24-hour coffee and tea, and daily replenished bottled water.

Viking Tir river cruise prices are per person and based on double occupancy. These rates are indicative only and may vary depending on travel agency promotions, special offers, discounts, group bookings, or last-minute deals. On selected itineraries or cabin categories, the line may offer discounted round-trip airfare from the USA.

Viking Tir Wiki

In 2019, together with Tir, Viking River Cruises launched the longships Vali, Einar, Sigrun, Sigyn, Ullur, and Helgrim. The seven-ship “virtual” naming ceremony was held via satellite connections on March 19, 2019, across four river ports: Basel, Switzerland (Sigrun and Einar), Rostock, Germany (Ullur and Sigyn), Brunsbuttel, Germany (Vali and Tir), and Oporto, Portugal (Helgrim). Tir’s godmother is Gisela Ruckert (Viking operations officer).

Transfers to and from Viking Tir, as well as airport meet-and-greet services, are included in the fare only when airfare is purchased through Viking Cruises.

Viking Tir is part of the latest generation of Viking Cruises longships. This patented river cruise ship design allows for larger accommodations without reducing the size of public areas or compromising overall onboard comfort. Tir represents the company’s advanced Longship-class riverboat concept. Viking Cruises longships feature energy-efficient hybrid engine technology, solar panels, and interiors designed by “Yran & Storbraaten” (Norway). The patented longship design (by “Rottet Studios”, USA) enables significantly larger passenger cabins with full-size balconies. The additional cabin space is achieved by shifting the corridor approximately 1 m (3.3 ft) off-center.
