Viking Brahmaputra Review
Review of Viking Brahmaputra
The 2027-built Viking Brahmaputra is the first of two Viking River Cruises ships deployed in India, followed by Viking Ganges (2028). The large riverboat operates year-round voyages on the Brahmaputra River in India’s Assam state. The newly developed itineraries (“Wonders of India”) are roundtrips from Delhi, with the cruising portion between two homeports—Guwahati and Nimati Ghat (road distance approximately 320 km / 200 mi), eastbound and westbound respectively.
The shipowner is Viking Holdings, the parent company of Viking Cruises.
The shipbuilder is Hooghly Cochin Shipyard Ltd (Kolkata, India).

The vessel is India-flagged/registered and named after the Brahmaputra River. The name “Brahmaputra” translates from Sanskrit as “son of Brahma,” with Brahma being the Hindu god of creation.
Decks and Cabins
Viking Brahmaputra staterooms (40 total) are all double occupancy and riverview (outside cabins). Each cabin features a French balcony with a floor-to-ceiling sliding glass door opening to a small step-out veranda.
The ship has 38 Veranda Staterooms (on Main, Middle, and Upper decks) and 2 Explorer Suites (forward on the Upper Deck).
The two Explorer Suites are two-room accommodations, each featuring a French balcony (in the bedroom) and a large forward-facing terrace (accessed from the living room). The Suite’s bathroom is larger and includes a dual-sink vanity and a separate glass-enclosed area with a bathtub/spa tub and shower. The outdoor terrace is furnished with two padded sun loungers/daybeds and two armchairs.
Standard cabin amenities include a Queen-size Viking Explorer bed (convertible to two twin beds, with under-bed storage for suitcases), luxury linens, seven pillows (three per person), bedside cabinets with wall-mounted reading lamps, laminate flooring (with carpet under the bed), a mirrored vanity/writing desk with chair, direct-dial phone, LCD TV (with infotainment system, complimentary on-demand movies, and Viking Cruises programming), electronic safe (in the closet), refrigerator, USB ports, and power outlets (110/220 V), two wardrobes (with wooden hangers), and an en-suite bathroom (toilet, single-sink vanity, glass-enclosed shower, anti-fog LED mirror, hairdryer, Freyja toiletries, and plush robes and slippers upon request). Additional features include individual climate control, daily replenished bottled water, binoculars (for onboard use), and daily steward service with twice-daily housekeeping.
Explorer Suite perks include a welcome bottle of champagne, a fully stocked mini-bar (replenished daily with wine, beer, and soft drinks), in-cabin dining with a daily fruit plate, and a coffee machine with premium capsules provided.
The vessel has 4 decks, three of which are passenger-accessible and include cabins.
Shipboard facilities and amenities
The riverboat features three passenger decks, each with staterooms and public facilities. All decks are interconnected via an elevator and a Grand Staircase located midship within the Atrium. Each Atrium level includes public restrooms.
The Lower Deck houses crew-only areas (engine room, propulsion systems, fuel tanks, power plant, water treatment systems) as well as crew cabins.
The Main Deck includes The Restaurant (complimentary dining room with full seating capacity and floor-to-ceiling windows) and the adjacent aft-located Galley (kitchen and storage areas).
The Middle Deck features the Lobby Hall (Reception/Guest Services and coffee station), Library (reading lounge), main Lounge (show venue with bar and panoramic windows), two restrooms, and the aft-facing Aquavit Terrace. The Terrace is an indoor-outdoor venue accessed via glass doors from the Lounge, offering 270-degree views and used for alfresco dining and social gatherings.
The Middle Deck also contains the main passenger embarkation points (portside and starboard).
The Upper Deck includes the Sky Bar (open-air venue with covered seating), a small Sun Deck (with loungers), wellness facilities (Fitness Center with cardio equipment and weights, and Spa with two treatment rooms), and a Shop offering travel essentials and Viking-branded merchandise.
Complimentary Wi-Fi is available throughout the ship.
Laundry service is available at an additional charge.

Travel between Delhi and Guwahati (approximately 1,800 km / 1,100 mi) is by included domestic flights.
The land portion includes Delhi (Old and New Delhi sightseeing), Agra (Taj Mahal and Agra Fort), and Jaipur (Amber Fort and Palace of Winds).
The cruise portion operates between Guwahati and Nimati Ghat.
The eastbound itinerary "Wonders of India I" (starting from approximately USD 8,000 per cabin) includes Delhi (Days 1–2), Agra (Days 3–4), Jaipur (Days 5–6), Guwahati embarkation (Days 7–8), Kaziranga National Park (Days 9–10), Biswanath Ghat (Day 11), Majuli Island (Day 12), Nimati Ghat disembarkation (Day 13), and return to Delhi (Days 14–15).
