Viking Kadlin Review
Review of Viking Kadlin
The 2016-built Longship Viking Kadlin cruises on the Danube all the way to the Black Sea (Constanta, Romania) and is homeported in Vienna (Austria). Initially, the vessel was deployed on the Seine River, departing from homeport Paris, France.
This Viking longship is named after the Old Norse female name Kadlin (Nordic Caitlin, where “cath” means “battle”). Kadlin (a form of Cadlae and Catherine) is most likely of Celtic origin. She was the daughter of Rolf (also known as Rollo, "the Ganger") – a Viking chieftain who conquered and ruled over Normandy. She married Bjolan (King of Scotland) and had a daughter (Midbjorg), who later married the Icelandic Viking Helgi Ottarson.
Viking Kadlin features an innovative corridor configuration (patented design), modern engineering and technologies, signature Scandinavian-themed decor, premium stateroom amenities, an itinerary-based and expert-led enrichment program, themed onboard entertainment, efficient use of public spaces, the signature Aquavit Terrace lounge, and numerous cabins with step-out balconies. Each Viking longship-class riverboat also features two of the European river cruising industry’s largest suites.

The vessel (ENI number 7002035) is currently Switzerland-flagged (MMSI 269057547) and registered in Basel.
Cabins
Viking Kadlin accommodates 190 guests in 95 staterooms (including 9 Suites, 39 Balcony cabins, 22 French Balcony cabins, and 25 with non-opening windows). The ship features the same design elements as other Viking Longships, offering deluxe accommodations, streamlined Scandinavian interiors, and advanced engineering. Guests can choose from 8 stateroom categories, all with upscale amenities. Kadlin Suites provide two full rooms, a private veranda and French balcony, spacious closets, hotel-style beds, and 42-inch flat-screen TVs.
Cabin types/categories (number, location), from highest to lowest:
- Suites - Veranda AA (x7, Deck 3), Explorer ES (x2, Deck 3)
- Balcony Staterooms (on Decks 2 and 3) - A, B (x39)
- French Balcony Staterooms (on Decks 2 and 3, with floor-to-ceiling door-windows) - C, D (x22)
- RiverView Staterooms - E, F (x25, Deck 1)
Shipboard facilities
Viking Longships feature bright public spaces with innovative details, such as the Aquavit Terrace at the bow, suitable for al fresco dining, and the Observation Lounge with floor-to-ceiling glass doors offering panoramic views. Viking Kadlin also features the Kadlin Restaurant (main dining room), Atrium (lobby), Library (Internet access), Shop (gifts and souvenirs), and top deck amenities including a shaded relaxation area, herbal garden, putting green, walking track, deck chess, and shuffleboard. The Kadlin longship does not have a gym, pool, jacuzzi, or spa. The glass elevator connects only the Middle and Upper decks.
Viking Kadlin cruise deals include Wi-Fi, all tours and excursions, ground transfers, live evening entertainment, daily lectures, food and wine tastings, 24-hour coffee and tea, and replenished daily bottled water.
Viking Kadlin river cruise prices are per person and based on double occupancy. These are indicative Viking cruise rates and may vary depending on booking conditions, including travel agency promotions, special offers and discounts, group bookings, or last-minute deals. On some Viking Kadlin Seine cruise itineraries, the line may offer discounted round-trip USA airfare (available for selected cabins, itineraries, and travel dates).

Viking Kadlin Wiki
Viking Kadlin is one of the latest-generation Viking Cruises longships modified for cruising on the Seine River. This patented Viking river cruise ship design allows for larger accommodations without reducing the size of public areas or compromising the vessel’s overall comfort.
The Viking ship Kadlin represents the line’s latest Longship-class riverboat design. Viking Cruises longships feature energy-efficient hybrid engine technology, solar panels, and interior design by "Yran & Storbraaten" (Norway). The patented "longship" design ("Rottet Studios", USA) enables significantly larger passenger accommodations with full-size balconies. The additional cabin space is achieved by shifting the deck corridor off-center by 1 m (3.3 ft).
The riverboat’s godmother is Mrs. Beth Butzlaff (Virtuoso cruise sales managing director). The ship’s naming ceremony was held in Amsterdam on March 1, 2016. In line with Viking River Cruises tradition, this was a "group christening" for six longships. Kadlin was christened together with her sister ships Alruna, Egil, Rolf, Tialfi, and Vilhjalm.
