Viking Fjolvar Review
Review of Viking Fjolvar
The 2026-built Longship Viking Fjolvar cruises exclusively on the Seine River in France’s Normandy region. The riverboat is year-round homeported in Paris City, departing weekly on 7-night roundtrip voyages.
This Viking longship is named after Fjolvar – in Norse mythology, one of the Jotnar (powerful and often hostile giants associated with nature and chaos, and adversaries of the gods). Fjolvar is said to have trained and fought alongside the god Odin on Algroen Island.

The Longship Fjolvar is one of the Viking riverboats specifically designed for navigation on the Seine River, allowing docking in central Paris. Her sister ships – Fjolvar, Fjorgyn, Kari, Radgrid, Nerthus, and Skaga – are all smaller (maximum passenger capacity 168 rather than 190) and feature customized hulls and propulsion systems compared to standard Viking Longship-class vessels.
The vessel (ENI number tba) will be Switzerland-flagged (MMSI tba) and registered in Basel.
The list of Viking’s 2026-inaugurated longships includes Viking Fjolvar, Viking Rota, Viking Haki, and Viking Sjofn.
On December 5, 2023, the company announced a shipbuilding order for 10 Viking Longships – 8 to be deployed on the Rhine, Main, and Danube rivers, and 2 in France (Seine River). Deliveries were scheduled for 2025 (6 vessels: Annar, Gyda, Honir, Eldir, Dagur, Nerthus) and 2026 (4 vessels: Rota, Haki, Sjofn, Fjolvar).
Cabins
Viking Fjolvar has a total of 84 staterooms (including 9 Suites, 35 Balcony cabins, 18 French Balcony cabins, and 25 Standard cabins with non-opening windows) across 8 categories.
The longship features two aft-located Explorer Suites with wraparound balconies offering 270-degree panoramic views. Each of the seven Veranda Suites has two separate rooms and includes a step-out balcony (accessed from the living room) and a French balcony (in the bedroom).
There are also 35 Veranda Staterooms, each with a private step-out balcony.
Viking Fjolvar accommodates 168 passengers, all provided with modern hotel-style amenities and high-quality travel and leisure services.
Cabin types and categories (number, location), from highest to lowest:
- Suites – ES (x2, Deck 3), AA (x7, Deck 3)
- Balcony Staterooms – A (x18, Deck 3), B (x17, Deck 2)
- French Balcony Staterooms (with floor-to-ceiling sliding door windows) – C (x3, Deck 3 aft), D (x15, Deck 2)
- RiverView Staterooms – E (x8, Deck 1 forward), F (x14, Deck 1 midship)
Shipboard facilities
All Viking Cruises longships are equipped with solar panels (mounted aft on the Sun Deck) and hybrid (diesel-electric) powerplants based on energy-efficient marine engines. The Observation Bar Lounge features floor-to-ceiling glass doors opening onto the Aquavit Terrace – a bow-located indoor-outdoor venue designed for relaxation and al fresco dining. The Sun Deck offers a large shaded seating area (covered by a retractable awning) and 360-degree river views.
Dining options onboard include the Fjolvar Restaurant (main dining room) and the Aquavit Terrace (al fresco). Additional facilities include an Atrium (lobby with 24-hour Reception Desk), Library (Internet lounge), Shop (gifts and souvenirs), Sky Bar, and a walking track.
One elevator (passenger lift) connects only Decks 2 and 3. All decks are also interconnected via stairs located forward (Grand Staircase in the Atrium), midship, and aft.
Viking Cruises longships do not have a swimming pool, Jacuzzi (outdoor whirlpool), wellness facilities (spa, beauty salon, sauna, fitness/gym room), or self-service laundry facilities (laundromats).
Unlike standard Viking Longships, Fjolvar also lacks aft sundeck features such as the putting green (mini-golf), herb garden, and deck games area (including shuffleboard).
Viking Seine River Cruise Itinerary
The Longship Fjolvar operates Viking River Cruises’ signature itinerary “PARIS AND THE HEART OF NORMANDY.”

Viking Fjolvar Seine River cruise prices are per person and based on double occupancy. These rates are indicative and may vary depending on travel agency promotions, special offers, discounts, group bookings, or last-minute deals.
Transfers to/from the ship and airport meet-and-greet services are included only when airfare is purchased through Viking Cruises (via the Viking Air package).

Viking Fjolvar Wiki
Viking Fjolvar is part of the new generation of Viking Cruises longships. This patented river cruise ship design allows for larger passenger accommodations without reducing the size of public areas or compromising overall comfort.
Longship Fjolvar represents Viking Cruises’ latest design, featuring energy-efficient hybrid engine technology, solar panels, and interior design developed by Yran & Storbraaten (Norway). The patented “longship” concept, created by Rottet Studios (USA), enables significantly larger accommodations with full-size (step-out) balconies. The additional cabin space is achieved by shifting the deck corridor approximately 1 m (3.3 ft) off-center.
The vessel’s powerplant consists of two main Caterpillar marine diesel engines (model CAT32-ACERT, total power output 2 MW). These are V12 engines (with 12 cylinders arranged in a V configuration driving a crankshaft). The propulsion system is based on two Caterpillar marine propulsion engines (model CAT18-ACERT) with a combined output of 1 MW.
In 2026, together with Viking Fjolvar, the longships Rota, Haki, and Sjofn were also inaugurated.
