Viking Gullveig

The 2014-built Longship Viking Gullveig cruises on the Rhine River in Holland, Germany, France, and Switzerland, departing from Amsterdam, Budapest, Nuremberg, and Basel.

This Viking longship is named after Gullveig/Heidr—in Norse mythology, the “three times burned, thrice reborn” seeress and volva (witch). Gullveig’s mistreatment by the Aesir sparked the Aesir–Vanir War, which ultimately united the two groups of gods (Vanir and Aesir).

Viking Gullveig was designed as a “green ship” by the renowned architects Yran & Storbraaten, featuring solar panels, hybrid energy-efficient engines, and an organic herb garden.

The vessel (ENI number 7001984) is currently Switzerland-flagged (MMSI 269057470) and registered in Basel.

Cabins

Approximately three-quarters of Viking Gullveig cabins feature either a French Balcony or a full veranda, while suites include both. The ship has 95 outside staterooms (2 Explorer Suites, 7 Veranda Suites, 39 Veranda Staterooms, 22 French Balcony Staterooms, and 25 Standard Staterooms) across 8 categories. All suites feature two rooms—a living room with a veranda and a bedroom with a French Balcony. Explorer Suites provide 270-degree panoramic views.

Shipboard facilities

Dining options onboard Viking Gullveig include the Gullveig Restaurant (main dining room) and the Aquavit Terrace (al fresco). Other facilities include an Observation Lounge, Atrium (lobby), Library (Internet area), Shop (gifts and souvenirs), and a top deck featuring a shaded relaxation area, Sky Bar, herb garden, putting green, walking track, and shuffleboard. The longship does not have a gym, pool, Jacuzzi, or spa.

Viking Gullveig cruise fares include Wi-Fi Internet, all tours and excursions, ground transfers, live evening entertainment, daily lectures, food and wine tastings, 24-hour coffee and tea, and replenished daily bottled water.

• "RHINE GETAWAY" consists of 7-day river cruises between Amsterdam and Basel (both directions). These itineraries visit 4 countries (Holland, Germany, France, Switzerland) and include 6 complimentary excursions. Disembarkation in Amsterdam offers an optional 2-night hotel package.
• "DANUBE WALTZ" consists of 7-day cruises between Budapest and Passau (both directions). These itineraries visit 4 countries and include 6 complimentary excursions, with an optional 3-night Prague hotel package (Czech Republic). Passau embarkation includes a bus transfer from Munich.
• "ROMANTIC DANUBE" consists of 7-day cruises between Nuremberg and Budapest (both directions). These itineraries visit 3 countries (Austria, Germany, Hungary) and include 6 complimentary excursions. Disembarkation in Nuremberg offers optional 2-night Nuremberg or 3-night Prague hotel packages. On departures from Nuremberg, the sailing begins on Day 2 with passage through the Main–Danube Canal and ends in Budapest (with an optional 2-night hotel stay).

Viking Gullveig is one of the latest-generation Viking Cruises longships. This patented river cruise ship design allows for larger accommodations without reducing public space or compromising overall onboard comfort. The vessel represents the line’s advanced Longship-class design, featuring energy-efficient hybrid engine technology, solar panels, and an interior developed by "Yran & Storbraaten" (Norway). The patented longship concept (by "Rottet Studios", USA) enables significantly larger staterooms with full-size balconies. The additional cabin space is achieved by shifting the deck corridor approximately 1 m (3.3 ft) off-center.

The riverboat’s godmother is Mrs. Hanh Haley, partner of Michael Batt (founder and chairman of "Travel Leaders," the largest network of travel agencies in the USA). The ship’s christening ceremony was held in Amsterdam, Holland. On March 17, 2014, Gullveig was inaugurated together with the Viking longships Alsvin, Baldur, Bestla, Delling, Eistla, Ingvi, Lif, and Magni.
