Viking Rolf Review

Review of Viking Rolf

The 2016-built Longship Viking Rolf cruises on the Rhine and Moselle rivers. Previously, she operated on the Seine River in France, departing from homeport Paris City.

This Viking longship is named after the chieftain Rolf (also known as “Rolf the Ganger” and “Rollo”), who in 911 AD sailed down the Seine River to lay siege to Paris. He was later defeated by King Charles, who granted him land in Normandy in exchange for protecting the region from future Viking attacks. Rolf became the first Duke (ruler) of Normandy and was succeeded by his son Vilhjalm ("William the Conqueror") in 927 AD.

The vessel (ENI number 7002037) is currently Switzerland-flagged (MMSI 269057548) and registered in Basel.

Cabins

Longship Rolf accommodates 190 guests in 95 staterooms (including 9 Suites, 39 Balcony cabins, 22 French Balcony cabins, and 25 with non-opening windows). The vessel features the same design elements as other Viking Longships, including deluxe accommodations, streamlined Scandinavian interiors, and advanced engineering. Guests can choose from 8 stateroom categories, all offering upscale amenities. Rolf Suites provide two full rooms, a private veranda and French balcony, spacious closets, hotel-style beds, and 42-inch flat-screen TVs.

Cabin types and categories (number, location), from highest to lowest:

  • Suites - Veranda AA (x7, Deck 3), Explorer ES (x2, Deck 3)
  • Balcony Staterooms (on Decks 2 and 3) - A, B (x39)
  • French Balcony Staterooms (on Decks 2 and 3, with floor-to-ceiling door windows) - C, D (x22)
  • RiverView Staterooms - E, F (x25, Deck 1)

Shipboard facilities

Viking Rolf dining venues include the Rolf Restaurant (main dining room) and the Aquavit Terrace (al fresco). Viking Longships feature light-filled public spaces, with highlights such as the Aquavit Terrace at the bow, ideal for outdoor dining, and the Observation Lounge with floor-to-ceiling glass doors. Additional facilities include an Atrium (lobby), Library (with Internet access), Shop (gifts and souvenirs), and a top-deck area with shaded seating, a herbal garden, putting green, walking track, deck chess, and shuffleboard.

The longship does not feature a gym, pool, jacuzzi, or spa. The glass elevator connects only the Middle and Upper decks.

Viking Rolf cruise deals include Wi-Fi internet, all tours and excursions, ground transfers, live evening entertainment, daily lectures, food and wine tastings, 24-hour coffee and tea, and daily replenished bottled water.

Viking Rolf river cruise prices are per person and based on double occupancy. These rates are indicative and may vary depending on booking conditions, including travel agency promotions, special offers, discounts, group bookings, or last-minute deals. On some of Viking Rolf’s Seine cruise tours, the line offers roundtrip USA airfare discount deals on select cabins, itineraries, or departure dates.

Viking Rolf Wiki

Viking Rolf is one of the latest-generation Viking Cruises longships, modified for cruising on the Seine River. This patented riverboat design allows for larger accommodations without reducing the size of public areas or compromising overall onboard comfort.

The vessel represents the line's latest Longship-class design. Viking Cruises longships feature energy-efficient hybrid engine technology, solar panels, and interior design by "Yran & Storbraaten" (Norway). The patented "longship" concept (developed by "Rottet Studios", USA) enables significantly larger passenger accommodations with full-size balconies. The additional cabin space is achieved by shifting the corridor approximately 1 m (3.3 ft) off-center. Viking Rolf offers Suite accommodations with two separate rooms – a bedroom with a French balcony and a living room with a step-out balcony. All cabins have a maximum capacity of 2 passengers, and 75% of the staterooms feature a balcony. There are 8 cabin categories in total.

The riverboat’s godmother is Mrs. Lisa Anciaux (AAA Washington, Travel Products Director). The ship’s naming ceremony was held in Amsterdam on March 1, 2016. In keeping with Viking River Cruises tradition, this was a group christening for six longships. Rolf was christened together with her sister ships Alruna, Egil, Kadlin, Tialfi, and Vilhjalm.
