Rudesheim is a Rhine River cruise port and town in Germany's Hesse state (Rheingau-Taunus-Kreis district) with population around 10,000.
Rudesheim am Rhein is a famous winemaking town in the Rhine Gorge region (UNESCO Site). It is located on river's east bank (southern approach to Lorelei / Loreley Rock) and belongs to Frankfurt Rhine-Main Metro Region (combined population over 5,8 million). One of Germany's best-known tourist travel destinations, Rudesheim is popular not only for its Old Town (Medieval) architecture but also for the Rheingau wines (winegrowing region located between Wiesbaden and Frankfurt am Main). Rudesheim is located in Rheingau's northwestern corner. The main vineyards are with riesling grapes, producing premium white wines. Visitors can taste the local wines (like the signature Rudesheimer Riesling) in the numerous wine houses in downtown.
Among town's landmarks and popular attractions are Siegfrieds Mechanisches Musikkabinett (musical instruments museum, some self-playing), Mittelalterliches Foltermuseum (Mediaeval Torture instruments and tequniques), Rheingauer Weinmuseum Bromserburg (castle / wine museum), Asbach Distillery, Pfarrkirche St Jakobus (church), Burg Ehrenfels (castle ruins), Eibingen Abbey, Weinfest (wine festival in August), Rheingau Musik Festival. An old tradition is the "Wine Queen" (Weinkonigin) and her princesses. In the summer each year, when the Rudesheim wine festival is held, the coronation of Weinkonigin and her princesses is the main event.
As cruise port, Rudesheim is regularly included in the schedules of all largest river cruise companies operating in Europe, including Viking, Uniworld, AmaWaterways, Avalon Waterways, CroisiEurope, Luftner-Amadeus, Scenic, Crystal, Phoenix Reisen, Saga. Next tables show some of the Rudesheim-inclusive itineraries as riverport sequences and prices per person (double occupancy rates).
