Carnival Paradise cruise ship rescues 6 Cubans at sea

6 Cuban migrants adrift at sea on a makeshift raft have been rescued by the CCL-Carnival Cruise Line's Carnival Paradise, last week when the ship was en route from Tampa Florida USA to Cozumel Mexico.

A video clip showed passengers clapping as the migrants neared the large vessel.

According to passenger Cintia Zingoni, who filmed the video, they did not have paddles.

"It wasn't really a boat. It was a piece of furniture, maybe a cabinet and they made it as a boat."

The video showed what appeared to be a piece of fabric the migrants were using as a sail along with styrofoam attached to the sides of their boat for flotation. The migrants were using a pot lid to paddle.

The migrants were welcomed onboard the ship where they received food, clothes, and a medical check-up, line's spokesman Matt Lupoli said. When the boat reached Cozumel (Mexico), they were turned over to officials, he added.
