CCL-Carnival Cruise Line made an announcement that Jay Leno, a well-known late-night talk show host and comedian, will become the first-ever godfather of one of their ships, Carnival Venezia (2019-launched as Costa Venezia).

The ship will be blessed and put into service from New York City on June 14th, 2023, during a celebratory event. Carnival Venezia is the first ship to combine "Carnival Fun Italian Style" with the ship's beautiful Italian theme. Jay Leno, in addition to being the godfather, will entertain the event guests with a special comedy show in collaboration with Carnival World Mastercard.

Jay Leno, originally from New Rochelle, NY, has Italian roots in Flumeri, Campania Italy. He started his career in entertainment as a stand-up comedian and later became well-known as the host of "The Tonight Show" for almost two decades (1992-2009) as well as in 2010-2014. Leno's Tonight Show was consistently the highest-rated late-night talk show, earning him the reputation of being the "hardest working man in show business."

Currently, Leno produces and hosts the CNBC primetime series called Jay Leno's Garage, which is now in its 7th season. The show explores the world of cars, focusing on the stories behind the drivers. Leno is also active as a stand-up comedy performer, corporate speaker, and the host of the game show reboot, You Bet Your Life.

Carnival Venezia pays homage to Venice Italy, and incorporates various spaces on board that reflect its namesake. The ship's atrium, called Piazza San Marco, captures the essence of Venice, and its restaurants, including Marco Polo, Canal Grande, and the new specialty restaurant "Il Viaggio," provide an Italian dining experience. The Teatro Rosso theater offers Carnival Playlist Productions shows, reminiscent of Italian opera houses.

Additionally, guests can enjoy popular Carnival attractions on board, such as Guy Fieri's Guy's Burger Joint, the steakhouse Fahrenheit 555, Bonsai Sushi & Teppanyaki, the Chef's Table, Lido Marketplace, Seafood Shack, Pizzeria del Capitano, Piano Bar 88, and Heroes Tribute Lounge.

Carnival Venezia will arrive at its new home in New York City and commence sailings from the Manhattan Cruise Terminal on June 15th, 2023. With a capacity for 5,000+ guests, the ship will offer 10 different cruise durations and 22 unique itineraries, visiting 25 ports across 14 countries.
