60-yo passenger dies following onboard altercation aboard MSC Virtuosa

On May 3, 2025, the cruise ship MSC Virtuosa departed Southampton UK at 06:00 p.m. local time, embarking on a 2-day voyage to Bruges (Belgium). Approximately two and a half hours into the journey, while still within British territorial waters, an incident occurred involving two male passengers, aged 60 and 57. The altercation resulted in the death of the 60-year-old man.

Upon the vessel's return to Southampton, Hampshire police arrested the 57-year-old man from Exeter on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody as investigations continue. Detective Chief Inspector Matt Gillooly, the senior investigating officer, indicated that the incident appears to be isolated and expressed appreciation for the crew's cooperation during the inquiry.

The deceased's next of kin have been informed and are receiving support from specialist officers. Authorities have requested that any passengers with relevant information contact Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary, referencing case number 44250193676.
