MS Star Princess, the newest LNG-powered vessel under construction for Princess Cruises, has recently arrived at Fincantieri’s Palermo yard for drydock works following the successful completion of its initial sea trials. Built at the Fincantieri yard in Monfalcone, the vessel departed the yard in late May to undergo additional outfitting and final preparations in Sicily.
The Mediterranean Sea trials involved a comprehensive series of evaluations. These included verification of onboard systems, assessment of safety protocols, and performance tests focusing on the ship’s maneuverability and propulsion under various operating conditions. Following the completion of its drydock phase, the vessel will return to Monfalcone, where final adjustments will be completed prior to handover later this year.
At approximately 175,500 gross tons/volume, Star Princess represents a substantial addition to the fleet and is set to mirror the layout and features of her sistership Sun Princess. The vessel incorporates expanded passenger spaces, contemporary design elements, and advanced environmental systems consistent with current industry trends in sustainable maritime operations. Key features include LNG propulsion technology, optimized hydrodynamic design, and modernized accommodation and public areas.
Star Princess is expected to commence service on October 4th (Maiden Voyage from Barcelona), beginning with a Mediterranean deployment before repositioning to the Caribbean for the winter 2025–2026 season. Itineraries from Fort Lauderdale will consist of 7-night rotations exploring the Eastern and Western Caribbean. Among the ports of call is Princess Cruises’ private destination, Princess Cays, located in the Bahamas, offering guests access to an exclusive shore experience.
In April 2026, the vessel will begin its inaugural Alaska season. A repositioning voyage via the Panama Canal will mark the transition from the Caribbean to the Pacific, concluding in Seattle. From May, the ship will operate seven-night cruises to key Alaskan destinations including Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway, and Victoria. These sailings will feature scenic cruising through Tracy Arm Fjord and follow Princess Cruises’ established “Inside Passage” route, offering passengers access to Alaska’s renowned natural landscapes and historical ports.
Following the Alaska season, Star Princess is scheduled to return to the Caribbean for the winter of 2026–2027, resuming warm-weather itineraries. The vessel’s deployment strategy reflects Princess Cruises’ aim to maintain year-round utilization across varied regions, capitalizing on both seasonal demand and destination diversity.
Designed for versatility and guest comfort, Star Princess is expected to strengthen the brand’s market offering across its core operating regions. The vessel combines technical innovation with an expansive itinerary program, positioning it as a flagship asset in the cruise line’s expanding LNG-powered fleet.
