AmaWaterways has confirmed 42 additional sailings for 2027 in partnership with Smithsonian Journeys, the travel programme of the Smithsonian Institution. The expanded schedule introduces two new itineraries — one encompassing the Seine, Saône and Rhône rivers in France, and another following the Mekong River through Vietnam and Cambodia.
Building on Smithsonian Journeys’ 175-year history as a global museum, research, and education network, each sailing will feature onboard experts drawn from a range of disciplines, including history, archaeology, science, and anthropology. Shore excursions will be tailored to provide in-depth cultural engagement, with opportunities for passengers to explore historical sites and interact with local communities.
The collaboration, first launched for 2026, will continue with 11 itineraries covering the Danube, Rhine, Douro, Seine, and Rhône rivers. Pre- and post-cruise land extensions will be offered, hosted by AmaWaterways cruise managers, enabling guests to further explore cultural and historical themes introduced during the voyage.
AmaWaterways Chief Executive Catherine Powell stated that the partnership was designed to encourage curiosity and deepen travellers’ connections with destinations, while delivering the company’s established standards of comfort and service. Walter Littlejohn, Senior Vice President of Smithsonian Journeys, noted that strong initial demand for the 2026 programme prompted the early release of 2027 voyages, which will include the new Mekong itinerary alongside established European river routes.
Onboard services will include multiple dining venues, a wellness programme with guided fitness sessions, daily cocktail hours, and inclusive beverages with meals, as well as a variety of small-group excursions and airport transfers.
