Cruise operators have revised sailings in the Caribbean as Hurricane Erin shows signs of intensification. By Friday morning, August 15th, the National Hurricane Center reported sustained winds near 70 miles per hour and indicated that the system could strengthen rapidly over the weekend.

A Tropical Storm Watch was issued for Anguilla, Barbuda, St. Martin, and St. Barts. Forecasts suggest Erin will become the first hurricane of the Atlantic season, with potential to reach Category 3 strength. While the system is not expected to significantly affect the southeastern United States, it poses risks to Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

RCI-Royal Caribbean adjusted the itinerary of Vision of the Seas, omitting two planned nights in Bermuda and diverting instead to Port Canaveral.

DCL-Disney Cruise Line confirmed that departures of Disney Treasure from Florida on Saturday would also be modified. Scheduled calls at Tortola and St. Thomas have been withdrawn, replaced with alternative ports at Cozumel, George Town, and Falmouth. The company advised that further changes may follow depending on the storm’s development.
