SunStone Maritime Group A/S has finalized its inaugural Infinity-class series with the delivery of the Douglas Mawson—the 7th and concluding vessel of that first batch—at China Merchants Heavy Industry in Haimen on September 9th, 2025.

Its arrival marks the third Infinity-class ship chartered to Aurora Expeditions, joining the Greg Mortimer and Sylvia Earle. Named in honor of the renowned Australian geologist and explorer Sir Douglas Mawson, the vessel extends SunStone’s footprint across expedition cruising.

This newbuild stands as the product of a knotwork of international expertise: Norwegian naval architects at Ulstein crafted the X-Bow hull, Swedish-American boutique styling was entrusted to Tomas Tillberg Design USA, Finnish interiors were executed by Mäkinen, with construction culminating at CMHI. The design ensures high standards of comfort, safety, and fuel efficiency.

At 104.4 m overall length and 18.4 m beam, with a draft of 5.3 m, the Douglas Mawson carries up to 170 passengers with a crew of 102. It bears Ice Class 1A and Polar Class 6 certification—enabling operation across both polar and temperate waters. Additional capabilities such as Safe Return to Port, virtual anchoring, zero-speed stabilizers, and the X-Bow design reflect the ship’s dual emphasis on safety and guest comfort.

Onboard, the vessel maintains an exclusive yet well-appointed environment, featuring a swimming pool, multiple dining venues, lounges, a boutique, gym, spa, and sauna.

With this delivery, SunStone concludes its first Infinity-class rollout, handing the reins of Douglas Mawson to Aurora Expeditions for long-term charter deployment.
