AmaWaterways orders 8 new ships to double fleet by 2030

AmaWaterways has placed an order for eight new river vessels, scheduled to be delivered by 2030, in order to expand its European fleet. The addition will raise the company’s global total to over forty ships, effectively doubling its fleet size compared to 2020.

Catherine Powell, Chief Executive Officer of AmaWaterways, has indicated that the fleet growth is being driven by rising guest demand for river cruising on Europe’s waterways. She emphasized that the new vessels will support AmaWaterways’ continued partnership with travel advisors, and will allow further delivery of its distinguishing features, including high service levels, elegant design, and immersive guest experiences.

AmaWaterways is known for its curated itineraries with immersive shore excursions. These include walking tours rich in history, scenic bicycle rides, wine‐tasting in established vineyards, and more local experiences—truffle hunting in southern France among them.

Accommodation of guest well-being aboard is woven into the company’s product. Onboard features include award-winning cuisine, a signature Wellness Host programme, daily options for exercise and relaxation, and leisure amenities such as sun-deck pools, walking tracks, fitness areas, spas, and evening performances of local culture. Select suites among the fleet offer butler service for greater personalisation.

The new vessels are expected to uphold AmaWaterways’ reputation in European river cruising, and more information about their design, deployment routes, and service features will be released in the coming months.
