Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore (MBCCS), operated by SATS-Creuers Cruise Services, has completed a US$40 million terminal enhancement designed to improve operational efficiency and passenger experience as cruise travel continues to expand across Asia.
The redevelopment includes a full reconfiguration of passenger flow to accommodate simultaneous dual mega-ship operations through its two existing berths. A new check-in hall on Level 1, equipped with 70 counters and 500+ seats, now serves Pier 2, while the upgraded Level 2 facility handles Pier 1 operations. Each hall has a VIP lounge, providing added comfort and privacy for premium travellers.
Beyond check-in, the new Ground Transport Area (GTA) has been expanded to improve access and circulation. Roadways leading to the terminal have been widened, and the number of coach bays has increased. Early baggage drop-off points have been introduced, allowing luggage to be transferred directly to the ship. Ride-hailing capacity has been more than doubled, and a dedicated shuttle now connects Marina South Pier MRT station to the terminal on designated cruise days, ensuring smoother passenger flow to and from the facility.
For self-driving guests, MBCCS now offers an Advanced Carpark Reservation System, enabling parking bookings up to 60 days ahead at discounted rates. A buggy service assists passengers with reduced mobility in moving between the GTA and the main terminal.
The upgraded terminal also introduces new partnerships with local service providers. Travellers can now arrange baggage transfers to Singapore hotels and Changi Airport, or take advantage of shuttle connections to nearby attractions such as Gardens by the Bay and Chinatown. The reintroduced Cruise-Fly Service allows international guests disembarking in Singapore to check in their luggage for same-day flights, freeing them to explore the city before departure.
Operational improvements behind the scenes include a Vehicle Slot Management System that uses real-time tracking and automated scheduling to streamline delivery logistics. The system manages the arrival and departure of supply vehicles delivering provisions such as food, linens, and ship stores, helping reduce congestion and maintain timely ship turnarounds even during dual ship operations.
MBCCS has also introduced the PortDeck, a modular bench-table system that can be reconfigured to adapt to passenger volumes. This innovation marks a first among maritime passenger terminals and reflects the facility’s continued focus on maximizing efficiency and comfort during peak travel periods.
