Passenger death reported aboard Oceania Marina in Puerto Madryn

A United States national has died aboard the cruise vessel Oceania Marina during a South American itinerary, according to confirmation from Argentine authorities.

The incident occurred while the ship was alongside in Puerto Madryn, a Patagonian port regularly included on regional sailings. The voyage had included a scheduled call at the Falkland Islands, where the passenger had initially been expected to disembark for medical attention.

Reports from local officials indicate that the individual’s health declined progressively during the passage. As the condition worsened, the vessel’s command advanced arrival arrangements in Puerto Madryn in order to obtain shoreside medical assistance. The ship’s onboard medical team responded in accordance with established emergency procedures. Vessels of Marina’s class are equipped with dedicated medical facilities and personnel trained to address a broad spectrum of health incidents at sea.

Upon berthing, the medical staff coordinated with Argentine health authorities and maritime officials. Despite these measures, the passenger died while the vessel remained in port.

Preliminary examinations conducted by local authorities have indicated that the death appears to have resulted from natural causes, with no evidence of external factors or suspicious circumstances. The matter was reviewed under standard maritime and public health protocols by the Argentine Naval Prefecture, the body responsible for port and maritime oversight in the country.

Officials advised that the incident did not interfere with the vessel’s operational schedule. Port activities and shore excursions for other passengers proceeded as arranged while formalities were completed. Following the conclusion of the required legal procedures, arrangements were made to prepare the deceased for repatriation to the United States.

The 1,250-guest Oceania Marina, operated by Oceania Cruises, continues to conduct itineraries in South American and Antarctic waters.
