Investigation continues into passenger death aboard Carnival Horizon

An 18-year-old passenger, Anna Kepner of Titusville, Florida, was found deceased aboard the Carnival Horizon on November 8th.

According to a security source briefed on the investigation, the individual was discovered concealed under a bed, wrapped in a blanket, and covered by life vests. Anna died by asphyxiation "resulting from a bar hold (an arm across her neck)." Investigators found two bruises on the side of the victim's neck.

The same source indicated that investigators are examining several possibilities, including a potential altercation with a stepsibling, a medical emergency, or an overdose. As part of the inquiry, authorities are reviewing ship security records, such as surveillance footage and access-card data, to establish a timeline of events preceding the death.

A filing in an unrelated family court matter referenced the federal investigation, noting that a minor child from the family may face criminal charges. The filing further stated that the stepmother, who was present on the voyage, has sought a delay in her custody proceedings due to potential prejudice from testifying in the ongoing criminal investigation.

CCL-Carnival Cruise Line has issued a statement confirming its focus is on supporting the guest's family and cooperating with the FBI.
