In 2025, Port Shanghai registered a total of 544 inbound and outbound cruise ship movements, marking a 17.5% increase in voyages compared with 2024 and averaging roughly 1,5 ship calls per day, according to statistics compiled by Shanghai Customs. This level of activity established a record high for the port’s cruise operations.
Over the same period, the number of passengers embarking or disembarking via cruise vessels at Shanghai exceeded 1.85 million, an increase of more than 35% (over 2024), underscoring the continued expansion of the port’s role in facilitating maritime tourism and transit.
Among the vessels contributing to this surge was the Adora Magic City, the first large China-built cruise vessel, which completed 170 inbound and outbound voyages in 2025 and served ~672 000 tourists. Since Adora Magic City’s launch, the ship logged a cumulative 337 port calls and served ~1.272 million passengers.
These developments signal a continued momentum in Shanghai’s emergence as a major nexus for cruise travel along China’s eastern seaboard.
