Passengers aboard RCI-Royal Caribbean International's Wonder of the Seas witnessed an operational incident as the ship departed Perfect Day at CocoCay in The Bahamas on August 1st, when one of the vessel's gangways slipped during retrieval and fell into the water. The incident occurred after passenger embarkation had been completed and was recorded by guests aboard the nearby Allure of the Seas, with videos subsequently circulating on social media.
The footage shows the gangway being recovered as Wonder of the Seas slowly moved away from the pier, with a forklift on the dock assisting the operation. During the process, the gangway became unstable, briefly remained suspended before dropping into the water alongside the berth.
No passengers or crew were on the gangway when the incident occurred, and no injuries or damage to the vessel were reported. Observers noted that dock personnel and crew members moved clear of the equipment rather than attempting to stop its fall, an action that avoided the risks associated with handling heavy loading equipment during an uncontrolled movement.
The incident did not affect the voyage. Wonder of the Seas continued its scheduled 3-night Bahamas itinerary, proceeding to Nassau before returning to Miami on August 3rd as planned, with no reported delays.
